Jerry Almeida is an inspirational orator, author and storyteller who shares the compelling inspirational stories of real heroes through his books and programs. An internationally certified, leadership expert & trainer, Jerry’s skills as a practical philosopher and futurist have enabled him to excel as an author, and motivational speaker. Jerry is passionately committed to the transformation of society to create a more responsible and humane world, which he firmly believes can be achieved by mobilizing young people everywhere. He is a UN advisor, philanthropist, serial missionary entrepreneur and an innovative fundraiser. As a social and political scientist, Jerry has led several campaigns which have become global movements like The Joy of Giving, Right every Wrong, Laadli- Save the girl child, Karmaveer, Karmayuga, Restaurants against Hunger, One Billion Hungry with the UN, One Billion Rising and other social campaigns. In 2008, Jerry ignited the spark for the anti corruption mission with the UN globally, NO CRIMINALS in government movement, and an electoral reforms campaign which have now inspired other huge public initiatives across India. Over the years Jerry has been inspiring students and citizens to clean India and the KEEDA HAI KYA to clean India idea was adopted by the government for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Initiative).
Jerry started his career as a journalist with the Indian Express and launched the Discovery Channel in India in 1995, through his experiential marketing consulting agency. He continued to make his mark in the media and entertainment sector, working with prominent music channels, co-founding a media and entertainment distribution venture, and also floating the first venture fund to produce meaningful Hindi Cinema, which produced movies like Pinjar. In 2002 Jerry produced the first cause related Bollywood movie “Ek Alag Mausam” with Nandita Das and Anupam Kher to highlight the struggles of people living with HIV. Jerry also has extensive corporate experience, having worked with ITC on brands such as Gold Flake and with L’Oreal, where he launched brands like Ultra Doux and Garnier. He left L’oreal to join his advertising and experiential marketing agency full time as Managing Director at the behest of his co-founders. This was a hugely successful venture responsible for launching and promoting brands like Microsoft, the Discovery Channel, MTV, Channel V, Hallmark, Coca Cola, Cadbury Schweppes, Whisper, Sony TV, Virgin Music, Columbia Tristar, Warner Bros, Seagrams, ANZ Grindlays, Citibank, Standard Charterered Bank, Baskin Robbins, Taj Group of Hotels, LIC, SBI, Hutchison, and many others. He nurtured this venture for 10 years which was eventually sold in 1997 to an American media conglomerate. Jerry has also worked as a management consultant in the area of public health, and provides expertise to various branches of government on public interest causes.
Jerry has also created and executed winning CSR strategies for several business houses including the Bharti Foundation at the request of SingTel and Project Shakti for Unilever. He believes that CSR should be an integral part of the business model, and has successfully consulted and trained various corporate foundations to plan and implement their CSR strategy. He has also crafted Blue Ocean strategies for MNCs to create cost effective health, food, nutrition & daily needs products for people living at the base of the pyramid. In 2003 Jerry launched the Karma Mitra foundation which has launched the Karmaveer Puraskaar- global awards for social justice and citizen action. He produced the award winning Joy of Giving music video, the first of its kind, in partnership with MTV & Channel [V] to involve citizens and the youth with marginalised children and communities. He is also the founder of iCONGO – the Indian Confederation of NGOs – to encourage social justice and inspire citizen action. Today iCONGO has become the International Confederation of NGOs with a focus on uniting people across the world in the interest of social justice.
Jerry is a prolific author, whose compilation of tales celebrating the triumph of the human spirit; ‘Karma Kurry’ was published in 2013, becoming an instant bestseller. The success of this book led to a 12 crore book deal for a series of ten ‘Karma Kurry’ books with Jaico publishers. The second Karma Kurry book will make its debut in May, 2017 and the third, later this year. Jerry is the author of Mann Ki Baat, a collaboration with the honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi. Mann Ki Baat inspires social justice through the actions of socially conscious citizens. Jerry has also signed a book deal with a US based publishing house for a book on mindfulness which will be launched globally, in 2018. The book is tentatively titled moJOsh Mindfulness – The path to extraordinary productivity.
